Recent Developments in the Shrink and Stretch Sleeve Labels Market
- In April 2024, Nestlé's revealed the launch of the new recyclable shrink sleeve label with light-blocking print technology to assist consumers in recycling 4,500 metric tons of PET annually without sacrificing product quality. It appears that the bottle and cap can be recycled along with the shrink sleeve, which does not need to be taken off before disposal. The recycling is then expected to be incorporated into another PET bottle, supporting the circular economy for plastic packaging.
- By June 2024, all seven of Nesquik's ready-to-drink flavors will have adopted the sleeve. Nestlé hopes to make recycling easier for its customers and guarantee that recycling facilities can more precisely sort its packaging.
- February, 2024: After completing the relocation from its previous location in Hohenems, CCL Industries declared that it has officially inaugurated its new ecological sleeve label hub in Dornbirn, Austria. The new facility surpasses double the size of the former location and represents an investment of USD 54.12 million (€50 million). A completely automated warehouse with approximately 10,000 square meters devoted to production is equipped with advanced computer-controlled software to optimize space for storage management and streamline intra-logistics.
- January, 2023: CCL Label introduced the market's thinnest stretch sleeve, composed of mono-PE and developed to decorate returnable 1-litre PET water bottles without the use of adhesives or heat. This ultra-thin stretch sleeve was designed with keeping the ecology in mind. The 30 micron sleeve is much thinner than the ‘standard' 45 micron sleeves which are commonly used. This account for material effectiveness, far fewer resources is required to create this sleeve, minimizing the product's carbon footprint.
- May, 2022: Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Group the creation of a resource-recycling (Label to Label) shrink sleeve label using material recycling in a collaborative demo project with Fuji Seal, Inc. This allows for shrink sleeve labels for plastic bottles to be recyclable. This effort is a joint demonstration project that focuses on the reuse of discarded labels throughout the "Label to Label" process.
